Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West
Architect Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) used to spend his winters on a sun-baked Scottsdale mountainside, challenging his apprentices to live in shelters of their own creation, then treating them to evenings of refined cultural entertainment. Taliesin West was both his residence and his student's learning laboratory, and today it remains one of five Wright-designed structures in Arizona open to the public.
With a usual crowd of more than 350,000 attendees throughout the multi-day event, this largest, longest-running of the collector automobile auctions has become a winter tradition. Held during January, Barrett-Jackson finds auctioneers pounding gavels on a drive-through stage while guests also experience Dodge thrill rides, automobilia auctions and arena polo matches.
Waste Management Phoenix Open
This fifth-oldest tournament on the PGA TOUR is also one of the most talked about. The 16th hole is famous for its party atmosphere - not to mention Tiger Wood's 1997 hole-in-one. In 2017, there was another record-breaking weekly total attendance of 655,434 fans over the seven-day event, breaking the 618,365 attendance record from 2016. The Children's Museum of Phoenix

Drivers orient themselves by it, hikers test their stamina on it, and visitors take pictures from it. Camelback Mountain is the tallest (2,704 feet) and most easily identified (shape of a reclining camel) landmark in central Phoenix. If you're feeling sure-footed and well-hydrated, greet the camel on a summit hike originating in Paradise Valley or Scottsdale. If you're into epic sightseeing with a side of upscale cuisine, admire him from a genteel resort patio on the north or south slope.
